Assistant Secretary Thomas-Greenfield Travels to California May 30-June 2, 2016

Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Linda Thomas-Greenfield will travel to San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and Los Angeles, May 30-June 2, 2016. The Assistant Secretary’s visit will highlight the importance of entrepreneurs, women, youth, and representatives of the diaspora who are creating innovative solutions to some of world’s toughest challenges. She will preview the seventh annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) at Stanford University June 22-24, encourage investment in Africa, and discuss U.S. efforts to promote entrepreneurship in Africa.

The U.S. Department of State announced today the partners and steering committee for the 2016 Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) to be hosted by President Obama June 22-24 at Stanford University. The Summit will be attended by more than 700 entrepreneurs from 170 countries around the world, including a large number of social entrepreneurs. GES Partners are contributing to the overall experience of the Summit including the creation of networking lounges, a “portals to” project to connect entrepreneurs around the world, opening and closing receptions to solidify investor and entrepreneur relationships...

Special Representative for Commercial and Business Affairs Ziad Haider will visit Tunisia and Egypt from May 26 to June 1 to promote the 7th annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit (June 22-24) in Silicon Valley, CA. Road to GES: Tunis, May 25-26, will feature events in partnership with the Tunis Business School, Pragma Corporation, and key government officials in the Ministries of Commerce, Industry, and Vocational Training and Employment.

New Business and Entrepreneurship MOOC Released for English Language Learners Worldwide

The U.S. Department of State, in partnership with FHI 360 and the University of Pennsylvania, has released a new Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) for budding entrepreneurs around the world to obtain the English skills needed to work in an international arena. The English for Business and Entrepreneurship MOOC is currently open for enrollment and will begin on May 15. By strengthening the quality of English teaching around the world, the Department seeks to enhance skills that expand opportunities in education, employment and international collaboration.

As the Administration's point person on entrepreneurship, Secretary Pritzker will be accompanied by 10 of the Presidential Ambassadors for Global Entrepreneurship (PAGE).

From March 14-18, Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs Charles H. Rivkin will lead the State Department’s “American Innovation Roadshow” across four cities in India: New Delhi, Gurgaon, Ahmedabad, and Hyderabad. This trip will focus on nurturing innovation in clean energy technologies in India and is the second in a series of roadshows across Asia, underscoring the importance of the commercial and economic ties between the United States and India.

From March 2-11, 2016, Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State Ambassador David H. Thorne will lead the State Department’s “American Innovation Roadshow” to Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines. This Roadshow is one of the first activities under U.S.-ASEAN Connect and the first in a series of Roadshows across Asia. Ambassador Thorne will lead a diverse delegation of U.S. multinational companies, financial investors, and successful early stage U.S. companies.

President Obama to host Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2016 at Stanford University

Stanford University will be a partner and will serve as the venue for the 2016 Global Entrepreneurship Summit with over 1,000 global delegates and hosted by President Barack Obama, the U.S. State Department and the White House announced today. The summit will be held from June 22-24 in various locations on the Stanford campus. Each of the world's six regions will be represented by 100 entrepreneurs and will be joined by 100 more from the United States.
