Julie is an entrepreneur, investor and advisor to numerous pioneering Silicon Valley companies. She is Executive Chair of the Board at Kiva, the world’s first and largest crowdlending marketplace for global entrepreneurs. Named a TIME magazine Top 50 Website, praised by President Clinton and Oprah, and called the “hottest non-profit on the planet” by FORTUNE, Kiva is a catalyst for revitalizing local economies in 86 countries, including the U.S. To date, millions of lenders from over 190 nations have crowdfunded more than $700 million in microloans to 1.6 million entrepreneurs, with a 98% repayment rate.

Julie is also an active advisor and investor to sharing economy pioneer Lyft, Bonobos, MightyText, Idealab, creator of over 125 companies with 40 IPO’s and acquisitions, and Lending Club (NASDAQ: LC). Named one of America’s most promising companies by Forbes and the largest IPO of 2014, Lending Club is transforming the banking system and is now the world’s largest online marketplace connecting borrowers and investors. 

Previously, Julie was founder and founding executive of several technology companies, including the world’s largest healthcare portal, Healtheon now WebMD (NASDAQ: WBMD), the first mass scale internet voice and data service, onebox.com (now OpenWave NASDAQ: UPIP), Portola Communications (acquired by Netscape), and Scalix, the first open source email and collaboration software for businesses. 

Julie is a member of the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on Humanitarian Response. She is an international speaker on entrepreneurial leadership and innovation and a guest lecturer at Stanford, Cambridge and Oxford Universities.
