Sam co-founded d.light, a social enterprise providing solar energy to the 2 billion people living without reliable power. d.light has improved the lives of over 65 million people in 60 countries and saved its customers over $2 billion in kerosene expenses. With d.light, Sam helped raise over $50 million, started the Indian and African sales offices, and oversaw multiple award-winning product launches.  Sam also serves as board member and advisor for startups and social enterprises in India, US and Canada.

Sam has degrees in Biology and Environmental Studies from the University of Victoria, Canada, and earned an MBA from Stanford.  Sam was selected as an Ashoka Fellow and World Economic Forum Young Global Leader; named a next generation leader for Africa by the African Leadership Network; and awarded the Charles Bronfman Prize. He was recognized by Forbes as one of the world’s top 30 social entrepreneurs and named Social Entrepreneur of the Year by the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship.
